In about two years, Volkswagen should unveil the sixth generation of the Polo. It must be said that the current version has recently had a serious facelift. It can still compete against the Ford Fiesta, Peugeot 208 and Renault Clio. Nevertheless, we already have some information about the one which will be taking over. It’s just been unveiled by German magazine Auto Bild.
According to the magazine, the future Polo will have a much more dynamic look, a lengthened wheelbase and a flatter roof. Volkswagen will offer the car with either a 3 or 5 door body. Thereafter, the manufacturer is seriously considering offering it in other variants. Behind the scenes, it looks like a small SUV is more and more on the agenda.
To run the Polo, the Wolfsburg manufacturer should be able to count on a good pallet of motorisations. According to Auto Bild, the Polo would notably be entitled to a new 1.0 TSI which would be available at two power levels: 95 and 110 horsepower. We don’t yet know if this engine would be the three-cylinder of the Up city car on which VW would have added a turbo or if it would be the current 1.2 TSI with a reduced engine capacity. For the rest of the petrol range, we can count on 1.4, 1.8 and 2 litre cylinder engines. This last motorisation would logically be the same as the one running the very sporty Audi S1 (231 hp and 370 Nm).
Lastly, for diesel, we should still be able to count on several variants of the 1.4 TDI.
And you, what do you think of this future generation of Polo?
