At the Paris Motor Show, at the start of October, the public will be able to discover the 2 Series Cabriolet. It’s the replacement for the 1 Series of the same name. This BMW hasn’t only changed denomination. In fact, it’s also gained a few centimetres (7.2 in length and 4.1 in width) and has seen its wheelbase grow by 4.3 cm. These gains allow for passengers in the rear to have a bit more room and to have a boot that’s slightly bigger.
Today, with the hood shut, this boot can count on a volume of 335 litres, which is an increase of 30 litres compared to the 1 Series. Not bad! Driving with the wind in your hair, the capacity drops to 280 litres. These values are slightly larger than those offered by the Audi A3 cabrio, it’s only rival.
From a practical point of view, we also note that the electrical canvas top can be operated at a speed of up to 50 km/h, that it only takes 20 seconds to aerate or cover the inside and, lastly, that it’s available in several colours.
Under the hood of the 2 Series Cabriolet, we find well tested engines from the manufacturer. For petrol, we have the choice between three units. The 2.0 TwinPower Turbo produces 184 hp under the hood of the 220i and offers 245 under the 228i. With its 326 horsepower, the six-cylinder Twinpower Turbo (235i) is the most powerful product of the range. The 220d of 190 hp is the only diesel on offer. BMW links its Euro 6 engines up to a choice of either a manual or an automatic gearbox. This 2 Series Cabriolet will arrive in concessions in the spring.
And you, would you like to drive with the wind in your hair with this 2 Series?
