The website for the German car magazine Auto Bild, which is always on the look-out for unreleased info, has taken an interest in the eighth generation of the Golf. According to this source, its release won't be announced before 2017-18, but the car is already in development.
On the style side, the Golf seems to have turned the page on the era of minor changes. Furthermore, the photo montage in Auto Bild shows this Golf to be more dynamic than ever. In all likelihood, it should be wider and lower to the ground, but it will also come with a longer wheelbase. We can therefore deduce that this VW will be more spacious than the current generation.
Some rumours also lead us to believe that the eighth generation could come in a never-seen-before version: a four-door coupe reminiscent of the current Mercedes-Benz CLA. It seems that discussions in Wolfsburg have been animated on this subject, since it was difficult to position such a model in the range. This is odd since we know that the introduction of the Passat CC seems to have gone smoothly. Whatever...
From a technical standpoint, it's a safe bet that the Golf VIII will use a bit more aluminium. Lastly, under the bonnet, the German car maker should be proposing new three-cylinder engines (a 100-horsepower 1.4 TDI and a 110-hp 1.0 TSI) as well as revising its other engines. The electric and rechargeable hybrid versions should benefit from more compact batteries and offer greater capacity.
So, would you be ready to sign your name on the dotted line for this future Golf?
