In 1986 Lancia had the wild idea to upgrade their already popular Thema model with a bigger engine. To achieve this feat they went shopping and ended up with an incredible engine from one of their sister brands in the Fiat Concern, Ferrari. In the history of Ferrari, they only delivered engines for a select number of non Ferrari models, making it extra special that Lancia was able to persuade them to provide them with n engine for their Thema. They chose the already renowned V8 engine from the Ferrari 308 and this was reworked to be more suited for the the Thema. The engine received different valves, camshafts and a different ignition sequence to make it more daily driveable. This however didn’t take away the sporty character of the car and engine and made it possible to reach a 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds. It was as quick as a Ferrari 308 while being heavier and more luxurious, not an easy thing to accomplish. In its final configuration, the 2.9 liter engine produced a healthy 215 horsepower and was mated to a 5 speed gearbox.

“Collection by Vermant” is pleased to be able to offer you this magnificent Thema 8.32. This Thema was delivered new in Germany to its first owner in 1988. The car saw its most use in the early days and by 1997 it had covered 57.700km when it came into possession of its second German owner, a dentist from Neuenstadt. He followed the philosophy of the first owner and meticulously cared for the car. He kept a log of the first 5.000 kilometers he did with the car. After this the car was used more sparingly accumulating just over 5.000 km in the last 20 years. To prepare the car for sale we have already performed a cambelt change to make it ready to drive again and get the mechanics on par with the immaculate condition of the rest of the car.

When looking at the outside of this Thema, we can find the beautiful Metallic colour of Rosso Winner. This is one of only a handful available colours of the 8.32 and it is the most striking. The dark metallic red suits the elegant lines of the car extremely well and gives the car a classy and distinguished look. On the front grille and sides of the car we can see the striking 8.32 badging that indicates that there is a beast hiding under the bonnet of this Thema. On the sides we can also see a 8.32 only feature with painted pinstripes on the sides. Bank in period these were only reserved for the most luxurious cars due to the cost of them. Going over to the rear we can see a dual slanted exhaust that gives the engine its distinctive roar. The exhaust is not the only party piece at the rear. On the 8.32 a retractable spoiler was introduced. This can either fold down in the boot lid to give the car a norma sedan look or fold out to match the look of the car to the sporty engine. This was a novelty upon release and it still took years for other brands to introduce a similar system in road or sports cars.

Going over to the interior we can see a beautiful black leather interior. To match the unique engine, Lancia collaborated with the renowned Italian Design house Poltrona Frau better known for its luxurious home furnishings and sofa’s. The collaboration between Lancia and Poltrona Frau was the first venture for the latter into the automotive business but not its latest. Since then Poltrona Frau partnered with multiple high end car manufacturers like Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini, Pagani,… to furnish and supply their interiors. This makes this Lancia even more special and also indicates the lengths Lancia has gone through to make this car their absolute flagship model and show the world what it could do. Every piece of interior trim of the car is covered in the beautiful Poltrona Frau leather that is still in almost new condition. Not only the leather was luxurious but the car was also equipped with every single comfort feature available such as electric and heated seats, High performance audio, Full engine and car check displays, sun roof, electric windows and even an electronically retractable rear spoiler. This allows the car to switch its look from a sleeper sedan to sports sedan.
