Description
Presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1960, the Ferrari 250 GTE 2+2 represents a pivotal moment in Ferrari's history. For the first time, the Maranello-based brand offered a true four-seater coupé, capable of providing the comfort of a grand tourer while retaining the performance and mechanical refinement of its sports models.
Powered by the famous 2,953 cc Colombo V12, fed by three Weber carburetors and coupled to a manual gearbox, the 250 GTE offers a typically Ferrari driving experience: smoothness, progressive power and a mechanical sound among the most iconic of Maranello's production.
The example shown is a Ferrari 250 GTE Series I, produced in September 1961. When it left the factory, it was delivered in an elegant Marrone metallic combination with crema interior, typical of Ferrari grand tourers of the early 1960s.
The car was registered in Italy in 1962, before continuing its international career. At a later date, it was exported to the United States, where it continues its life in a private collection.
In 1990, with approximately 62,000 km on the odometer, the car was brought back to Italy by Massimo Ferragamo, a member of the famous Florentine family behind the Salvatore Ferragamo fashion house. Under the Ferragamo family's ownership, the car underwent a restoration in Italy, during which it acquired its current red exterior with a beige interior, a configuration that has become iconic for classic Ferraris.
This example also appears in the book “Ferrari: The Legend”, pages 26 and 27, testifying to the interest in this chassis.
The car then continued its story in Belgium where it was registered by the last owner in December 2001.
Always used in accordance with the spirit of the great Ferrari touring cars, the car notably participated in the 2003 Tour Auto, one of the most prestigious historical events for classic automobiles.
Over the past few years, the car has undergone extensive maintenance and repairs, demonstrating meticulous mechanical care and a commitment to keeping it in optimal working order. These interventions, totaling €150,000 since 2001, now allow for worry-free use, both on the road and at historic events.
Combining the nobility of the Colombo V12, the elegant lines designed by Pininfarina, a provenance marked by the Ferragamo family and a documented history between Italy, the United States and Belgium, this Ferrari 250 GTE Series I constitutes a particularly attractive opportunity to access the world of Ferrari V12s from the 1960s.
This 250 GT/E is in excellent condition: the bodywork shows some signs of use, but remains very beautiful. The interior is immaculate, as is the engine compartment. The engine runs very well and the car handles magnificently on the road. It has been regularly driven by its owner since its acquisition. It does not currently have Ferrari Classiche certification, but it is a matching numbers car.
