Description

The Ferrari GTS Turbo occupies a unique place in the history of mid-engined V8 Ferraris. Introduced in 1986, it succeeded the 208 GTS Turbo and was the supercharged version of the 328 generation. It was developed primarily for the Italian market, where the particularly punitive taxation on cars with engines larger than two liters had led Ferrari to develop a V8 of only 1,991 cc, whose supercharging allowed it to offer performance worthy of larger-displacement Ferraris.

This latest evolution of Ferrari's small V8 Turbo receives an IHI turbocharger paired with a Behr intercooler. The F106 N engine thus develops 254 hp at 6,500 rpm, for a claimed top speed of 253 km/h. Performance figures are very close to those of the naturally aspirated 328 GTS, despite a displacement limited to two liters. Ferrari itself officially classifies the model as the "GTS Turbo".

Aesthetically, the GTS Turbo adopts the particularly successful lines of the 328 designed by Pininfarina, while retaining several details that allow connoisseurs to identify it: NACA air intakes in front of the rear wheels, a specific engine cover designed to feed the intercooler, ventilation openings in the rear bumper, and a roof spoiler. The removable Targa roof offers the pleasure of open-air driving.

The GTS Turbo is now significantly rarer than a 328 GTS. Only 828 examples were produced between 1986 and 1989, compared to over 6,000 for the 328 GTS. Its closed-cockpit sibling, the GTB Turbo, was even more exclusive, with only 308 examples produced.

The example we are offering is a 1987 Ferrari GTS Turbo, type F106 AS/TR, chassis no. 73935 (ZFFZA28B000073935). Its Italian documents confirm the F106 N type engine, the displacement of 1,990 cc and the power output of 187 kW.

Its file also allows us to trace an interesting part of its Italian history. The car notably belonged for many years to Fabio Venturini, in the Verona region. Several technical inspections and maintenance documents allow us to follow its presence in Italy during the 2000s and 2010s. It then passed into the hands of Cristiano Luzzago in Brescia, a renowned Italian professional in the world of classic cars.

In April 2015, shortly before leaving Italy, it underwent a major service at Noci Motor Classic, including the replacement of the timing belts and their tensioners, as well as various accessory belts, engine oil, and coolant. It was then officially deregistered from the Italian vehicle registry on May 5, 2015, in preparation for its export to another European Union country.

More recently, in August 2026, a major service was carried out, including the replacement of the timing belts and tensioners. This is a particularly important point on this type of Ferrari and allows its next owner to enjoy the car immediately.

This GTS Turbo is presented today in excellent overall condition, both aesthetically and mechanically. Rare, high-performing, and still relatively unknown, it combines the iconic lines of the 328, the pleasure of the Targa roof, and the very distinctive character of the small turbocharged Ferrari V8.

With only 828 examples produced, the Ferrari GTS Turbo is a true Ferrari for connoisseurs, much more confidential than the 328 GTS and particularly representative of the era when Ferrari, still under the Enzo Ferrari era, was developing its first turbocharged road cars.
