Description

The Fiat Dino holds a unique place in the history of Italian automobiles. It was born from an exceptional collaboration between Fiat and Ferrari, mandated by the Formula 2 regulations of the late 1960s. To homologate its brand-new V6 engine, Ferrari had to produce at least 500 units. An agreement was then reached with Fiat, which undertook to integrate this exceptional engine into two mass-produced models: the Spider designed by Pininfarina and the Coupé by Bertone. The name "Dino" pays tribute to Alfredo "Dino" Ferrari, son of Enzo Ferrari, who died prematurely and was heavily involved in the development of this twin-cam V6.

Introduced in 1967, the Bertone Coupé immediately captivated with its understated elegance, four proper seats, and excellent balance. More versatile than the Spider, it also enjoyed greater commercial success, becoming one of the finest examples of Italian grand touring cars of its era.

In 1969, the second series appeared, the Fiat Dino 2400, considered the culmination of the model. Its Ferrari V6 engine was enlarged from 2.0 to 2.4 liters and produced 180 horsepower. This was the same cast-iron block that would later power the famous Ferrari Dino 246 GT, offering a unique metallic sound and exceptional mechanical character. Combined with a five-speed ZF gearbox and a limited-slip differential, it allowed the car to reach nearly 220 km/h, making the Dino 2400 one of the highest-performing Italian grand coupes of its era.

This evolution isn't limited to the mechanics. The independent rear suspension replaces the old rigid axle and transforms the car's handling. Oversized Girling brakes, wider wheels, and numerous chassis refinements make it a true GT, equally enjoyable on long journeys and winding roads. The interior also benefits from a significant overhaul with a redesigned dashboard, new seats, and even more refined finishing.

Another particularly prestigious detail: the Fiat Dino 2400s were no longer assembled in the Fiat factories in Rivalta but in Maranello, on the same production lines as the Ferrari Dino 246 GT, illustrating the very close ties that united Fiat and Ferrari at the time.

This example boasts a particularly reassuring history and a file of invoices. It has always been meticulously maintained, and numerous works have been carried out over the years to keep it in excellent condition, both cosmetically and mechanically.

The most important interventions include:

• replacement of all silent blocks;
• complete overhaul of carburetors (diaphragms, jets and refurbishment kits);
• clutch replacement;
• Complete restoration of the bodywork in 2019, with a fifteen-year guarantee;
• complete interior renovation in 2020;
• major mechanical maintenance including valve adjustment (report available), radiator refurbishment, replacement of all hoses, spark plugs, points and routine maintenance operations.

Since its acquisition by the current owner in 2023, the car has been used very little. Only two repairs have been carried out: the replacement of the steering ball joints and the refurbishment of the rear wheel studs.

Before its delivery to its future owner, a complete service will be carried out so that this Fiat Dino is ready to hit the road in the best conditions.

Rare in this state of preservation, with a well-documented service history and powered by its authentic 2.4-liter Ferrari V6, this Fiat Dino Coupé is an increasingly difficult opportunity to find. It will appeal to both the discerning collector and the enthusiast of true Italian GTs, offering a remarkable balance of elegance, performance, and mechanical refinement.
