Description
Introduced in 1959, the Jaguar Mk2 became one of the most iconic British saloons. It continued the formula established by the Mk1: combining the performance of a sports car, the comfort of a true four-door, and the refinement characteristic of Jaguar. With its rounded lines, slim pillars, and generous glass surfaces, it boasts a particularly well-balanced silhouette. Inside, the leather, wood trim, and numerous instruments create an instantly recognizable atmosphere.
The Mk2 helped establish Jaguar's reputation in the field of sports saloons. Offered with three engine options — 2.4, 3.4 and 3.8 litres — it met the expectations of both customers looking for a comfortable car and those of driving enthusiasts.
The 3.4-liter is a particularly appealing choice. It features the renowned XK engine, a 3,442 cc inline six-cylinder with double overhead camshafts, fed by two SU carburetors. Its power output at the time was advertised as 210 bhp, according to the measurement standards then in use. This engine combines smoothness, character, and ample power, with that distinctive sound that contributes so much to the pleasure of driving a Jaguar.
The four disc brakes, independent front suspension, and attention to comfort complete an ambitious design for a saloon car of that era. More than sixty years after its birth, the Mk2 remains a particularly appealing collector's car, perfect for accommodating family or friends to enjoy the road together.
This 1964 Jaguar Mk2 3.4-litre captivates us with both its presentation and its driving pleasure. It's probably the most beautiful Mk2 we've offered at Route59, and the most enjoyable to drive.
Its magnificent Gun Metal paintwork, paired with a red Connolly leather interior, perfectly accentuates its lines. Wire wheels, chrome accents, and varnished wood trim complete this particularly elegant combination. The car is presented in exceptional condition, with a corrosion-free body.
The car underwent a comprehensive and thorough restoration in Germany, supported by a substantial file of invoices. The bodywork and structure were rebuilt, the upholstery and woodwork were refurbished, and the engine was completely rebuilt. The brakes, running gear, and major mechanical components also received significant work, followed by documented maintenance.
This restoration was accompanied by improvements that make the car particularly enjoyable to drive:
-
Rack and pinion power steering for easy maneuvering and less demanding driving.
-
Five-speed Getrag gearbox, providing greater ease and appreciable comfort on long journeys.
-
Stainless steel exhaust system, for durability and the sound of the six cylinders.
-
An additional electric fan, to assist with cooling.
-
Adjustable Spax shock absorbers, completing the refurbishment of the running gear.
Power steering and a five-speed gearbox are two key advantages. They allow you to fully appreciate the Mk2's character, with an ease of use that makes you want to get behind the wheel regularly. This Jaguar is equally suited to a leisurely drive or a multi-day getaway.
After its restoration, it was carefully maintained by the Bayerl family. Its last German owner was Franz Pesch, identified as the former endurance driver associated with the Gelo Racing Team and a competitor in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was imported to Belgium in 2025.
A remarkably presented Mk2, extensively restored and improved to drive: exactly the kind of car we like to offer at Route59.
