Description

The XK150 was the third and final stage in the evolution of the XK concept. The model was launched in May 1957, initially with a choice of coupé (fixed-head) and convertible (drophead) body styles. The Spyder followed almost a year later, and was initially only available in left-hand drive for export, with most of these cars destined for the United States.

 The XK150's styling was modernised, and while the car lost some of the grace that characterised the first and purest version of the XK design, it was clearly more muscular. There were other notable improvements. Although a 'standard' XK150 fitted with drum brakes is listed in the catalogue, all production cars were the 'Special Equipment' model, which had disc brakes on all four wheels. Almost all cars had steel wheels, with the exception of a handful of cars fitted with disc wheels and box-springs on the rear wheels.

 The 3.4-litre engine now produced 210bhp, with 250bhp in the new 'S' model with a triple carburettor engine introduced in 1959. That was not the end of the story either, as Jaguar introduced a larger 3.8-litre XK engine. From October 1959 there was a 3.8-litre XK150 with 220bhp and an 'S' version with 265bhp (gross figures). Total production of the XK range from 1948 to 1960 was 30,000 cars, of which 9,385 were XK150 models.

 This example, a 3.4 litre with manual gearbox and overdrive, has been completely restored engine-gearbox-body. It was produced in 1339 examples. It is in exceptional condition, both mechanically and cosmetically. It is equipped with EZ power steering.

 Matching number and Jaguar heritage trust certificate. Delivered new in California, USA, it was imported to the Netherlands in 1986 where it was restored.
