Description

The Jaguar XK150 is a sports car produced by Jaguar between 1957 and 1961. It replaced the XK140.

Initially, it was available in coupe (FHC) and convertible (DHC) versions. The two-seat roadster (OTC) was not launched until 1958. The coupes were equipped with token rear seats.

Although bearing a family resemblance to the XK120 and XK140, the XK150 has been radically modernized. A single-piece windshield replaces the split screen, and the fender line no longer extends as much above the doors. The hood was widened, opened to the fenders, and on the roadster, the bulkhead was moved back 4 inches (102 mm) to lengthen the hood. The car has been available at various times in Red, Pearl Grey, White, Indigo Blue, Burgundy, Cotswold Blue, Black, Misty Grey, Sherwood Green, Carmen Red, British Racing Green, Cornish Gray and Imperial Burgundy.

Inside, the XK140's walnut dashboard has been replaced with a leather-trimmed dashboard. On the first Drop Head coupes, an aluminum central dashboard with an X-shaped engraving was installed, similar to that of the early E 3.8 types. It was removed after June 1958. The thinner doors provide more space inside.

The standard engine, the same as that of the cars were equipped with the SE engine, whose cylinder head had been modified with larger exhaust valves, rated at 210 SAE hp at 5,500 rpm. Two 44 mm (1.75 in) SU HD6 carburettors were fitted.

Four-wheel 305mm Dunlop disc brakes make an appearance for the first time, although it is theoretically possible to order a car with drums. It was possible to specify wire wheels or solid wheels. The suspension and chassis are very similar to the XK140. The steering was rack and pinion; power steering was not offered.

Production ended in October 1960, with a total of 2,265 Roadsters, 4,445 Coupes and 2,672 Convertibles produced.

This example, a 3.4 liter with automatic transmission finished in Old English White with a contrasting Burgundy hide interior, was completely restored in Belgium more than 20 years ago after being imported from the USA. During the restoration, the original automatic gearbox was replaced by a more efficient Borg Warner model 35 automatic gearbox (Origin XJ6). It remains in very good condition at all levels.
