Description
The Peugeot 504 Coupé is one of those French cars whose elegance has remarkably stood the test of time. Introduced in 1969 and designed by Pininfarina, it distinguishes itself from the 504 sedan with a completely unique body and particularly well-balanced lines. In 1974, Peugeot equipped it with a powertrain befitting its status with the arrival of the 2.7-liter PRV V6 engine.
A few years later, the V6 Ti appeared, undoubtedly one of the most interesting and accomplished versions of the first generation 504 Coupé. The 2,664 cc PRV V6 engine abandoned its carburetors in favor of Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, while the transmission now benefited from a five-speed manual gearbox. Power output then reached 144 hp.
This V6 Ti offers a particularly appealing combination: it benefits from significant mechanical improvements while retaining the original design of the Coupé, notably its elegant chrome bumpers. It thus combines a more modern and user-friendly engine with the refined and classic aesthetics of the early 504 Coupé models.
The example we are offering has only 143,500 km on the clock. Above all, it has retained one of the elements that make this generation so charming: its superb original velvet interior, remarkably well preserved.
Route59 has undertaken a major restoration of this car, guided by a very clear principle: to preserve its original identity and appearance while upgrading its mechanical capabilities. The bodywork has been repainted in its original color. It now features beautiful 15-inch Peugeot aluminum wheels fitted with new tires, as well as a new all-stainless-steel exhaust system.
But the most interesting changes are hidden under the hood. Rather than simply restoring the original PRV V6, we opted for a complete overhaul of its mechanics. The engine was entrusted to BVO Sport for a comprehensive build: its displacement was increased from 2.7 to approximately 3 liters, and it notably received a crankshaft with offset crankpins.
Thus prepared, the V6 now develops around 180 hp, compared to 144 hp originally, with above all more torque, flexibility and enjoyment.
Particular care was taken to preserve its original appearance. Despite significant modifications to the engine's internal components, it retains 100% of its original external accessories and peripherals. Opening the hood reveals the PRV V6 and its surroundings exactly as they appeared in a 504 Coupé V6 Ti. The modifications are intentionally invisible: the evolution lies within.
The upgrade also encompassed the entire fuel and injection system. The fuel pump, pressure accumulator, and injectors were replaced, along with a thorough overhaul of the various components essential for the proper functioning of the Bosch K-Jetronic injection system. The transmission was also adapted to the increased performance with the installation of a new clutch from a Peugeot 505 Turbo, better suited to handle the additional torque while remaining within the Peugeot mechanical framework.
The result is a 504 Coupé V6 Ti that could almost have rolled off the Peugeot assembly line: the elegance and authenticity of the original model, but with the engine it perhaps always deserved. With its V6 enlarged to 3 liters and producing around 180 hp, it gains in torque, smoothness, and character, without sacrificing any of the qualities that make a 504 Coupé so appealing today. A subtle, coherent evolution, entirely focused on driving pleasure.
