HISTORY / DOCUMENTATION
This Triumph TR250 is a remarkable example that has been fully restored by the current owner with great craftsmanship and an eye for authenticity. The restoration has been extensively documented with photographs, technical data, diagrams and invoices, all of which are supplied with the car. The car was imported from the United States in 2021, where it spent its early years in Pennsylvania. An interesting historical detail is that the car took part in the famous Hershey Hillclimb in 1969 and 1970, and an original entry plate from the event is still present. A thorough restoration was undertaken, leaving nothing to chance. The bodywork was completely dismantled and the original chassis was – with the approval of the RDW – replaced by a correct TR250 chassis. The RDW verified and re-registered the car’s identity at the owner’s premises during the restoration. The original factory colour – Triumph Racing Green – was also revealed during the restoration. The car has been professionally rebuilt in this classic colour. The result is a TR250 that is in excellent condition, both technically and visually, where quality took precedence over speed or cost. The car comes with a comprehensive documentation folder containing historical records, technical specifications, restoration photographs, wiring diagrams, manuals and invoices. A valuation report from 2025 is also included.
EXTERIOR
The TR250 is finished in the timeless Triumph Racing Green, a colour that perfectly complements the elegant lines of this British roadster. During the restoration, the entire bodywork was stripped back to bare steel, after which it was carefully rebuilt using high-quality epoxy primer and layers of paint.
Damaged body panels have been replaced or expertly repaired. Among other things, both front wings have been renewed and the door assemblies reinforced to maintain a perfect fit. The front end has also been fully restored. A special and rare feature is the original Surrey Hardtop in a stylish two-tone cream finish. A matching aluminium roof is also included, as well as a black soft top and a practical canvas roof for short-term use. All the characteristic TR250 details have been retained, including the original wing mirrors, ‘bumble bee’ radiator hoses, fuel cap, badges and the original striping on the bonnet. The car sits on attractive alloy wheels, fitted with high-quality Michelin tyres. In addition, the windscreen has been raised slightly, resulting in noticeably improved aerodynamics.
INTERIOR
The interior is in very well-maintained condition and is finished in classic black Skai, perfectly complementing the car’s appearance. The original wooden dashboard panels, together with the classic instruments, create an atmospheric cockpit. Through a member of the Triumph TR Club Holland, original TR250 seats were sourced and fully restored, restoring the interior to its authentic appearance. Alongside the original instrumentation, a digital Sigma speedometer has been discreetly fitted, which accurately displays the actual speed. For enthusiasts of rally and agility driving, a Monit Tripmaster is also included.
TECHNICAL
From a technical perspective, this TR250 has been brought up to an exceptionally high standard. The original inline-six engine has been fully overhauled. The cylinder head features hardened valve seats, bronze valve guides, new valve springs and a refurbished hardened rocker arm shaft. The crankshaft has been ground, balanced and fitted with new bearings. The oil seals have also been modified to improve reliability. For optimum performance, a specially developed TR-Torq camshaft has been fitted, combining excellent handling characteristics with higher torque.
One of the biggest improvements is the EFI injection system, which was developed and fitted entirely in-house. The original carburettors have been replaced by a modern electronic fuel injection system with individual ignition coils per cylinder, Bosch injectors and a modified TR5 intake manifold. As a result, power has increased from approximately 109 pk to around 170 pk, whilst the engine runs considerably more smoothly and starts more easily in all conditions. The original manual gearbox has been fully overhauled and fitted with a reconditioned A-type overdrive. The overdrive is conveniently operated via push-buttons on the gear lever and disengages automatically when changing gear. The chassis has also been completely overhauled. The front suspension is fitted with urethane bushings and modern shock absorbers. The entire wheel alignment has been precisely adjusted. The drivetrain has also been overhauled. The differential has been rebuilt with new bearings, the drive shafts have been replaced with modern constant-velocity units and the drive shaft has been professionally balanced. The braking system has been completely renewed, including the master cylinder, power assist, hoses and wheel cylinders. The system is filled with high-quality DOT 5 synthetic brake fluid. Furthermore, the car features a stainless-steel fuel tank, an electric cooling fan in front of the radiator, a refurbished 70-amp alternator, a completely new wiring harness with separate EFI wiring, and a concealed immobiliser.
GENERAL
The Triumph TR250, built exclusively in 1968, is one of the most sought-after and rare models in the TR series. The car was developed specifically for the North American market in response to stricter US emissions regulations, which meant that the mechanical Lucas fuel injection system of the European TR5 had to be replaced by two Stromberg carburettors. Despite this difference, the powerful 2.5-litre inline-six engine was retained, giving the TR250 its characteristic smooth running and beautiful six-cylinder sound. Only 8,484 TR250s were produced, making it considerably rarer than the later TR6. Thanks to its elegant Michelotti bodywork, classic chrome details and sporty handling, the TR250 is regarded by enthusiasts as one of the finest British roadsters of the 1960s. Today, the model is highly sought after by collectors for its exclusivity, timeless appeal and the unique combination of classic engineering and pure open-top driving pleasure.
