Description
Introduced in 1966, the Alfa Romeo Spider is the last creation by Battista Pininfarina. A true masterpiece of Italian design, it would go on to be produced for almost thirty years without ever losing its elegance, becoming one of the most iconic Italian cars of all time.
From its presentation at the Geneva Motor Show, the Spider captivated with its exceptionally pure lines. Its tapered profile, quickly nicknamed "cuttlefish bone" ("Osso di Seppia"), its plunging front, its famous Alfa Romeo grille and its perfectly balanced curves instantly made it a benchmark of automotive design.
The first version was powered by the famous 1,570 cc Alfa Romeo four-cylinder engine with double overhead camshafts, fed by two twin-choke Weber carburetors, producing 110 horsepower. Combined with a five-speed manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, four disc brakes, and a particularly well-balanced chassis, it offered road handling that would quickly establish the model's sporty reputation.
The Spider's history is punctuated by anecdotes that have become legendary. Its nickname "Duetto," chosen after a competition organized by Alfa Romeo, had to be abandoned the following year following a legal dispute with a confectionery brand. Nevertheless, this name would remain the one by which the first generation would be known worldwide.
Its American launch was equally spectacular: three Spiders, white, red, and green, crossed the Atlantic aboard the prestigious ocean liner Raffaello before being presented in the United States. A few months later, Dustin Hoffman definitively immortalized the car in the film The Graduate , making the Spider a true international icon.
Throughout its career, the Spider evolved without ever betraying its identity. Alongside the 1600, the 1750 Veloce, 1300 Junior, and then 2000 Veloce versions appeared successively. In 1969, the first generation "Osso di Seppia" gave way to the "Coda Tronca" version, while the 1980s saw the arrival of the "Aerodinamica" version, recognizable by its more imposing bumpers and spectacular rear spoiler.
In 1990, Pininfarina redesigned his creation one last time. This final evolution resulted in cleaner, more elegant lines. The imposing aerodynamic appendages disappeared, replaced by a much purer design. The new taillights were inspired by those of the Alfa Romeo 164, while the discreet spoiler integrated into the trunk restored harmony to the silhouette.
Under the hood, the famous Alfa Romeo engine remains a constant. While a few rare examples retain the 1.6-liter carburetor engine, the vast majority receive the two-liter electronic fuel-injected engine producing 122 horsepower (117 hp on the catalyzed versions), offering greater flexibility while maintaining the characteristic Alfa Romeo mechanical feel.
This fourth and final generation will be produced until 1993, bringing to a close nearly thirty years of an exceptional career.

This example was delivered new in Germany on February 20, 1992 by Autohaus Gerhard Kuban . It benefits from a remarkably well-documented history from its origin.
After initially spending time in Germany, it was exported to the United Kingdom in 1998 where it was meticulously maintained for nearly twenty years. The numerous MoT certificates, maintenance invoices, and logbook stamps attest to this particularly rigorous upkeep.
Imported to Belgium in 2018, the car has continued to be meticulously maintained. More recently, it underwent a complete gearbox overhaul, including clutch replacement (May 2025), as well as a full service.
